DATE:      June 13, 2002

TIME:        7:30 P.M.

LOCATION:   Red Level Alabama, Covington County

TERRAIN:      Wooded

OBSERVED:
Me and my younger brother had been wading up the creek starting at the bridge. We left early in the day and had caught a lot of fish. We reached a time when we knew we should head back to beat darkness. We were fairly close to getting back and it wasn't as late as we figured, so we sat down to fish a pretty hole. We were talking and carrying on when my brother told me to hush. He heard something in the woods across the creek from us. I listened and sure enough I heard heavy footsteps in the dry leaves.

I dismissed it as a deer and we continued to talk. Again we heard the same sound but closer. It sounded as if it were just on the other side of the heavy blanket of underbrush bordering the bank. I yelled "Hey" and nothing happened. At this point a deer would have bounded off into the forest. Then my brother threw a medium size stone in the general direction of the noise. We heard a low grunt and the bushes started to shake violently. We didn't sit there to find out what was coming. We started walking backwards down the creek and saw a large black animal or something jump into the creek.

When I noticed that this creature landed on two feet I couldn't breathe. My brother was now crashing down the creek as fast as he could. I turned to follow him, but just before I did the creature faced me. It had a face shaped almost like a human but with wider cheeks and a long chin. It did not look happy. I then turned and dashed wildly feeling the adrenaline pumping through my veins. It made a loud coarse yell as I ran away. Somehow, I don't know when, I had dropped my fish and my fishing pole. I know this animal was not a bear or a monkey. It was too slender to be a bear and it was much too tall to be a monkey or gorilla. I'd say it was seven or eight feet tall. We haven't told anyone cause we know they won't believe us. But we did go back to try and recover my fishing pole a couple days later. We took guns this time of course. We found my fishing pole exactly where we had seen the creature. What is mind boggling is we also found the stringer. It was laying on the bank with no fish on it. It was not broken or anything. I can't see how any animal that I know of would have the coordination to take fish off of a stringer. We left and haven't went back.

ACTIVITIES OF WITNESSES:  Fishing

DESCRIPTION OF CREATURE:  It was dark black. Seven or eight feet tall. Slender frame. Stood on two feet. Large head resembling a humans but hairy.
