LOCATION:   In the area of Huntsville, Alabama in Madison County
 

TERRAIN:     Hills, ridges and wooded.
 

OBSERVED:
Said person involved is my cousin. He told me what occurred shortly after it happened. This happened in late November of 1999.

My cousin had been out mountain bike riding that day along some well know public trails on the outskirts of Huntsville.   Huntsville is in the low foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and thus is situated along hilly terrian. I was told by him that while he was riding along one portion of the trail he could hear something running through the woods parallel to him about 100 to 150 feet. He said that part of the trail was along a ridge and whatever it was running along below him between where he was and another ridge a few yards away and it was keeping pace with him. He said this went on for about 10 minutes and did not really bother him figuring it might be another person. He stopped twice and each time he heard heavy breathing.  He stopped for a few minutes to rest and while doing so he could hear  what it was running further and further away from him toward and  then up the other ridge.  He said he thought he caught a glimpse of a large dark hairy animal that was on the run but he was not sure. He said he did not see or hear anything like that again that day. The event did not seem to bother him or shake him up in the least. Then again my cousin thinks he's a real tough guy anyways. :-)
