REPORT RECEIVED: From the GCBRO submissions page.  Confidential.

DATE:      08/15/74

TIME:        Daytime

LOCATION:     Theodore, (Mobile) Alabama, Mobile County,
I65 and Hwy. 90, about three miles from Mobile Greyhound Park.

TERRAIN:        Swampy

OBSERVED: At the time of my sister's sighting, I was fourteen and my sister was eleven. We lived on a small horse farm in what was then a fairly rural area. Our property bordered on a swamp connecting to Rabbit Creek, with a small cow pond being connected to it about 1/8 or less mile from the house.

I was working in the barn at the time (dusk)(also, the date is not exact) of the incident, when my sister came up from the pond, where we often played and caught snakes and frogs, etc., as kids do. She ran from the pond to the barn with three of our dogs, one being mine, a pit bull that was not prone to be scared of anything. When she reached me, she was out of breath, crying, babbling and screaming and the dogs, most noticeably mine, seemed very upset.

She told me there was a bigfoot (I don't recall if she said bigfoot at the time) but a creature wading in the cow pond, which is about a quarter acre in size and it looked at her, seemingly fearless and didn't seem to care about her presence. She ran off in fear to me in the barn as previously described.

The next day she pointed out the spot where she had seen it wading, and from her account, it would have been between six and eight feet in height. She may have said that it looked like a gorilla. At that time the area was still rural enough to support large 10-12 foot alligators (albeit rare) and plenty of smaller animals like rabbit, armadillos, nutria, raccoon, red fox and bobcats, as well as deer. No bears are found in that part of the county or anywhere within 40-60 miles of the area, if I am correct.

I have asked her as an adult if she really saw it and she stood by her story. She is a highly educated professional and works for a contractor for the department of defense as a "rocket scientist", if you will. I don't know of any other parts of Mobile County that have reported any other sightings.   I moved away in 1979. It did, however, leave a fearful impact on the both of us. I've known her all of her life (of course) and don't doubt that she is telling the truth.

I will ask her if she wishes to post her recollections of the event, also. If so, I think her account will be pretty close to my recollection. Perhaps more southern Alabamians would know more about recent sightings in that area of Mobile.

Description of Creature: Six and eight feet in height

Activities of Witness:   Playing at Pond

Other Notes:   Again, the dogs seemed fearful as well.  I was working in the barn with the horses or playing, she was going down with some of our dogs to play at the pond. My memory is still vivid as
to which dogs were with her at the time and that was 24 years ago.  I really don't think my sister was aware of bigfoot at the time, she was only eleven and media was not so prevalent as it is now.
