LOCATION:   Alabama, Covington County

TERRAIN:      Forest

OBSERVED:  My mother, myself and some friends were traveling south on Hwy 137 about 10:00 pm sometime in October or November of 1978. We were approaching a flat stretch of road when we saw on the right hand side of the road an animal. At first we could not make it out. I thought at first it was a black bear but on getting closer the animal rose up on its hind feet and began to trot across the road not more than 40 feet in front of us. We could see black hair on its body and it looked like a small man about 5 and 1/2  to 6 feet in height. It kept its face turned away from us at all times. We were close enough to see the hair on its arms which was about 6 inches long and glossy black in color. The animal proceded across the road . By this time we had come to a complete stop and watched  it walk to a fence on the left hand side of the road ,grab a fence post with its left hand, and jumped the fence.

DESCRIPTION OF CREATURE:  About 5 1/2 to 6 ft tall with black, silky, glossy hair all over its body
