TERRAIN:
Old and new growth redwoods, wooded area,
creek runs through entire property, we were camped above creek in a small
clearing.
OBSERVED:
We were camped out with 12 kids as part of
the camp program "under the stars" i.e. no tents just sleeping bags and
mats. All the kids had gone to sleep and myself and two other counselors
were awake telling jokes etc. keeping an eye on the kids. Just after 1am
we heared a splashing noise from the creek below(we were about 3 0 feet
above and 20 feet across from the creek bed) All 3 of us heard it and immediatley
quietened down, hoping to figure out what it was and maybe see what it
was. There had been reports of a mountain lion in the area so we thought
we might get lucky and see it. The splashing then began to sound like someone
splashing around and walking through the water, it didn't sound like an
animal. Initially we thought it might be someone messing around with us,
but there was no other way of getting down to the creek, and then the sounds
started; horrible grunt and a throaty groan and a couple of sounds which
sounded like a japanese sumo. We threw a big rock down into the creek in
the general direction of the sounds , shined our flashlights and heard
and saw nothing. We went back to our sleeping bags , nobody said a word.
About ten minutes later we heard the splashing again, briefly and then
no-more. At around 4 am I awoke and saw something looking over me I was
lying down and in my sleeping ba g and thought I was dreaming seeing some
shape above me. I awoke about a minute later and realised that something
really had been looking at me, I looked all around but couldn't see anything,
just the sound of some creature moving in the forest. It took me a while
to process what had happened that night, and I thought maybe I was just
imagining it all, untill one of the other guys woke up and began talking
about the sounds from ther creek and how he wouldnot be doing the camp
out again. Also I was the last to sleep that night, the sounds had freaked
me out, and i had a candy bar near my head when I went to sleep, it wasn't
there in the morning!!
Activities of Witness:
Camping in a forest on private property which
is deserted (apart from care taker) for 9 moths of the year
Description of Creature:
Didn't really see it, from my sleepy daze
I just saw anoutline with a dark humanoid head. From the sounds in the
creek it sounded heavy and like a big man splashing in water. There were
no real smells.
Other Notes:
It was not a regular animal we heard. All
3 of us worked at that camp for 5 summers, we never heard anything like
that before or since, one guy was from thunder bay, ontario,canada, and
had heard things like that from where he lived and didn't believe them
until this.
