DATE: 11/91

TIME:    Dawn

LOCATION:  Florida. Collier county

TERRAIN:   Swampy

OBSERVED:    Twenty Minutes before dawn a friend and I launched a 12' aluminum boat with a 10 hp motor on the east side of the canal a few yards above the wier (on the fresh water side). because it too dark to navagate safly with a motor we slowly and quietly paddled along the east shore of the canal casting into the shore line weeds for bass waiting for enough light to travel farther inland. After a few minutes I had a light "hit" on my lure and we stopped to fish the pocket in the weeds throughly.During fishing this spot the sun rose enough so that there was enough light so that if we had been driving on the road it would have been safe to drive without headlights, in other words it was light enough to see very clearly.I heard a small splash behind me and turned to look towards the south bank and saw what I first thought was a diver emerging from the water obviously walking on the bottom of the canal about 15 feet out from the south shoreline and no more than 100 feet from our boat. The "diver's" back was to us.I told my friend to look and the "diver" turned to look at us at the sound of my voice. When it turned it was very obvious that it was no diver. It was a Big Foot. It looked very much like a gorilla but did not move at all like any gorilla I had ever seen. It slowly turned back toward the opposite bank and took a few slow steps, looking around at the terrain beyond the southern shoreline. At that moment a car travelling south on U.S. XX passed by and the big foot turned back toward us and walked straight into deeper water disapearing benieth the surface.we waited aproximately 15 minutes but the animal did not resurface and wee had an excellent view of the entire canal for several hundred feet in every direction. we crossed the canal to the exact spot we saw the Big Foot and could clearly see large foot prints on the bottom of the canal through the crystal clear water. Our depth finder read 7.5 feet of water. I verified this by sticking my 7' fishing rod into the water untill it touched the bottom. When I did my arm was submerged to a point just above my wrist. The animal had been above the water so that the waterline was a few inches below it's  nipples. because of this I believe the animal was at least 10' tall.

Activities of Witness:   Fishing from a boat.

Description of Creature:   It looked very much like a gorilla but did not move at all like any gorilla I had ever seen .

Other Notes:   One of the many things I found strange was that the animal did not swim but walked on the bottom while underwater. It was not boyant. Also just after it submerged there were a few bubbles but it did not leave any trail of bubbles so I could follow it's path underwater as I would have expected.

Additional Notes or Comments:    I saw an episode last year on the Discovery channel  where someone had a video of a Big Foot taken from a deer stand south of everglades city. The video was filmed around the same time I saw this animal. The location of the videoed sighting was less than 10 miles south of my sighting. On the program it was stated that the video was likely a fake. That is what prompted me to make this report after so long. These creatures do exist. I need no more proof than what I saw.I hope some concrete evedence is found soon that will convince mainstream science so that nessesary steps can be taken to insure thier well being. They are obviously very rare and I fear they may become extinct.
