TIME:  8 to 10 o'clock AM

LOCATION: CANTON ,  CHEROKEE COUNTY  GA.

TERRAIN:  Wooded hillsides leading to flat swampy creek area.

OBSERVED:    I was hunting indian artifacts following old trails into the area . The path I was on led down by the creek, the side of the creek I was on is hilly, the other was flat bottom land, both sides are in a very wooded area.  When I was down by the creek I spooked something on the other side. It took off and I did not see it, but I could tell by the sound it made that it was very large. It did not sound like it ran very far before it stopped. I could tell by the sound that it was much larger than a deer so I thought it could be a bear, and since it stopped, that spooked me.  I was alone so I started working my way up the trail towards the top of the hill.
On the way up I noticed lots of small trees layed over . I felt like whatever it was was watching and following me up.
The top of the hill was clearcut so I felt a little better up there being able to see around me a little further.  I did not hear it anymore but I still felt like I was being watched.  It was so quite it was spooky. I figured I would just stay in the clearing and hunt arrowheads around there and let things get to normal  before leaving. I was there about 30 min. when I smelled something
dead.  I was looking to see what was dead when something let out a yell about 200 yards away towards the creek.  It was very loud and it sounded like a tropical bird to start  then going to a very deep human sounding tone but much louder and deeper than a human could ever make. That sound ran right through me and I thought I was fixing to throw up. About 30 sec. after it yelled, another creature yelled from the other side of me, like it was anwsering back. It's yell was less bird sounding and more human, with more deep grunt sounds.  I was in between them and I knew not to run, so I started walking, not at a fast pace, but more of a normal pace down the trail toward my car. I let out a few loud coughs and stopped and lit a cigerette in hopes that the noise and commotion might startle, or spook, what ever they were.  Most of the time I am very silent when I hunt, but it must have worked as they did not follow me out. I will not go back their alone or with out a gun.
