OBSERVED: I was running along the Indian Creek Trail
in Nevada, Iowa. From end to end, the trail is a
substantially long trip on foot. I started my run where the
trail meets 11th St. around 7:30 p.m. and it was dark
outside but easy to see because of the moon. As I understand
it, many people walk and run the trail at night because of
the peace and solitude. My run brought me to the second road
intersection with 8th St. I continued on the trail under the
6th St. overpass and then under a railroad overpass and ran
the rest of the trail to Lincoln Highway. I stopped before
crossing the road to check the time on my phone which was
now 8:13 p.m. I began to backtrack my running trip and
eventually I made it back to the railroad overpass. As I ran
under the overpass, I saw a white hoodie on the edge of the
trail and I heard voices nearby so I brought my run to a
walk in order to hear what was being said. I only heard a
few words from a single quote. "Beast...the man..has the
power...inside the beast." I couldn't see anything in the
woods because of thick trees blocking the moonlight so I
stopped on the trail and kneeled just to listen. I thought
some teenagers were out camping and having fun. Then I heard
a human scream sounding much like a young man. The scream
turned to what sounded like a loud, painful,
hyperventilating grunt. The hyperventilating continued but
the grunt turned more to a growl. After hearing this, I
turned and ran full sprint to the trail intersection with
8th St. and walked the road back to my car at the trail end
on 11th St. for safety purposes. I believed a man was being
attacked by a bear but there were never any missing reports
for Nevada in the weeks after. I don't know what it was
because I didn't see it but I believe there is a possibility
that it could have been a Bigfoot or perhaps a
werewolf.
