TIME:     Just before dawn 
 

LOCATION:   Tazewell County, Illinois 
 

TERRAIN:    Wooded 
 

OBSERVED:    While sitting in my tree stand (deer hunting) waiting for first light i heard a low guttural awwoompff,awwoompff,awwoompff across the the road to the west from the timber i was hunting. It sounded to be in the middle of that property, i also hunt it so i knew the general area it had come from, very thick and very steep ravine's probably 800 yard's from me.  It was very loud in the stillness of dawn. Then something answered back from the east alot further away. This call was higher pitched and more complex kind of aaeeowwee, aaeeowwee it did this five or six time's very rapidly, then silence....I have been in the wood's all my life and have never heard anything like it. The bummer is that i often video tape my hunt's and had a camera with me on a tree mountable arm, but it happened so sudden i just sat there in wonder not thinking to hit record and get the sound's on tape until after the fact!  Da*# It!!!

Description of Creature:  No sighting just vocalization
 

Other Notes:    None, other than jumping something very big the following season on the west side of the property.  Never saw it but heard it crash through the wood's, figured it to be a huge white tail but after those call's i had to wonder????
 

Other (Informational or Encounter History in the General Area) Notes:    Also, cougar's have been making their way back to Illinois, not a cat that i heard though
