RECEIVED FROM: G.C.B.R.O. Web Site Submission Form

DATE:   September 1974

TIME:     5:30 or 6:00 P.M.

LOCATION:    Broughtontown, Kentucky, Lincoln County

TERRAIN:       Wooded, at the base of a hill

OBSERVED:      I was approximately 11 years old at the time. It was just before
dusk on a warm fall day. The leaves were falling from the trees and were dry, so when
you walked they would crunch under your feet.

I was going to bury a wild bird that I had found that was injured, but,
alas, it didn't survive. My two dogs and I, one was a miniature poodle and
the other a mixed stray, went across the graveled road in front of our
house and across the creek into the woods. I stopped app. 20 or so feet at
the base of a big hill to bury the bird. The dogs were wandering around me.

I had finished burying the bird when my poodle dog, Cotton, started
whimpering. At that time, I heard the crunching of leaves. I assumed it was
the other dog, Jack, walking to me ,but he had came in front of me at that
time and was also whimpering with his tail tucked between his legs. I had
never known any of the dogs that we had ever owned to behave in this
manner. The dogs were looking to the left of me where the crunching sound
was coming from. I was still squatted down from covering up the bird I had
just buried, so I glanced in the direction of the sound. What I saw I have
never forgotten in 27 years. When I looked up, the thing stopped moving. I
was probably 15 to 20 feet away from me. I saw a Huge, long-haired,wide
thing. At first I thought it may have been a bear, but it was standing on
two legs and as my gaze traveled up from about its knees I saw long, really
hairy arms that couldn't have been a bears. Well, this frightened the He--
out of me, so being a young kid, I never, unfortunately, looked up any
further than its trunk so I never saw what it's head looked like. Plus, as
I said, it was close to dusk, so in the woods it was not very light.
However, there was no doubt that it was something very large and very
hairy. So I ran like the devil!

I didn't stop running until I got to a rock bar in the middle of the creek.
I stopped to see if my dogs were with me but the weren't. So, I then was
worried that this Thing may have gotten them. I yelled for them and I heard
one of them yelp and they both came running to me. We ran across the road
to my parents house and I told my older brother and Mother what I had seen.
My mother just dismissed it at that time to an eleven year olds imagination
but my brother walked to the side of the creek with me to see if we could
see or hear anything. We didn't. I couldn't get him to go across the creek.
So, that was it.

In the spring of the following, my older sister and I were on the side of
the same hill, taking photographs. We came upon indentions going up the
side of the hill. Deep indentions that looked like some sort of footprint.
So our father came back up the hill with us to see these so-called
footprints. They were going up a steep part of the hill that was hard for
us to go up without sliding. There were 3 good prints in the leaves and
when Dad pushed the leaves back from one, in had made an impression in the
soft dirt below. About a 1/2" deep. Daddy said he couldn't explain it.  It
was just one of those mysterious things of the woods.

My husband and I own land down there now, across the creek from my mother's
land. We camp out during the summer there. But I haven't seen or heard
anything and my husband deer hunts there in the fall.  Wonder if we will?

Thank you for letting me share this experience. I'm glad that I am not the
only one with these experiences.

ACTIVITIES OF WITNESS(ES):   Came home from school, ate supper and went outside
to check on my bird.

DESCRIPTION OF CREATURE:

OTHER NOTES:   We would hear things in the fall of the year, after the leaves had
fallen and the creek bed had little water. Sounds of trees crashing and
loud noises.

OTHER SIGHTINGS IN THIS AREA:  Yes, see Lincoln County, KY database.
