TIME:     N/A

LOCATION:   Mackinac County, Michigan

TERRAIN:    The area has various terrain types, in the location we were at was near a small creek winding into a cedar swamp. The trail we were on was an old R.R. grade that had by now been reduced to a deer run. This path crossed the creek and ran along the edge of the swamp and a finger of high ground that had pine trees mixed in with birch . It was easy enough to follow the trail but at times we ran into standing water in the trail, maybe ankle deep. The temperature was mid 50's and sunny during the day and down in the 30's at night.

OBSERVED:    Who:  A Cousin in his late 30's, my son 14yrs old, my nephew 15 yrs old, and myself 41 yr old.  What happened: On 4/27/06 we left from the southwest end of Michigan and drove to Grayling for the night at the Holidome. On 4/28/06 we arrived at camp midday. After setting up camp we headed into area we had targeted for our search. At the point we left the truck until dark was about 3.5 hours. We didn't get too far into the hike when I stopped the guys and had them look at a green pine that was snapped off about 8 ft in the air. I informed them that I had read that the Sasquatch is said to mark their territory by striking a tree between 7 and 8 feet in the air so hard it would snap like a broken matchstick. We took a closer look and tried to debunk this theory. The top of the tree was 3 ½ 'to 4' to the left of the trunk and some distance away from the trunk. It was about 12" in dia. at the base and 6" in dia where it was snapped off. There was no evidence of anything large enough falling from another tree that might has blown over from a high wind and struck the tree. We thought maybe the wind blew it over during a storm. We dismissed that theory because the wind would have caused a gradual bending break that would have splintered and torn and the top of the tree would have been closer to the trunk if not still partially attached. This was snapped off fairly clean. Within 3 ft of this pine were dead trees still standing? I had my son and nephew each take one of these trees and try to push them over. With very little ease these trees fell over. This begs the question, why would the wind snap this green tree at 6" of diameter, but these dead trees barely able to stand not blow over? (I took Photos of this) I cannot decide what to think of what happened next. We continued on along this trail in single file, about 10 yards apart in this order my cousin, nephew, son and then I. We traveled a short distance when all of the sudden my cousin stopped and froze in place. Each of us stopped simultaneously, my cousin and my son kept looking off to the left and my nephew looked back at me. I was trying as hard as I could to locate what my son and cousin were looking at but I could not see anything due to the fact I was in the rear still in some thick cover. My son looked scared and he had somewhat of a breakdown on me, he was about to cry. I have never seen my son react to anything like this before. We all grouped around my son and I was trying to get out of him what he had seen, when my cousin asked him did you see something move to our left about 30 yds out that had fur on it. My son said he did and he wanted to leave. I calmed him down and told him to relax and tell me what he saw exactly. He told me that what he had seen was movement and something moved into an area that was thick and hard to see through but he did say it was big and was a furbearing animal of some sort. I informed him that he was overreacting to the report we had read and that the woods had many fur bearing animals and that we needed to check out the area he had seen movement for any tracks. There were no tracks but it would be hard to see any, a lot of the ground was rocky and standing water. I asked my cousin what he had seen and he described basically what my son had witnessed but dismissed it as probably a Deer. My son had gotten back some courage after we checked things out but he stayed as close to me as possible. We hoofed it for at least an hour and had found a second tree snapped off 8ft in the air with the same look and condition of the first one we had found, again no evidence of any wind damage or storm damage around this tree. We finally decided to head back to the truck due to the fact we didn't want to be trying to get back in the dark. My cousin found a dead tree(still standing) at the point where we stopped and took a knife and whittled out an arrow on this dead tree to mark the spot and we would pick up the trial the next day. This would conclude our first day of our search. I can only at this point say that the only concrete element we found that was tangible were these trees snapped off 8 ft in the air with really no explanation as to why they were broken off. The other thing was what I can best describe as what I felt myself during this entire time, which was the feeling of being watched the entire time. Back at the camp we all discussed what to make of our trip into the woods and each of us felt the same way as either being watched or followed. On 4/29/06: We arrived back at the trail head with the original group of 4 with the addition of my two Daughters and my Daughter's boy friend. We followed the same route and I stayed behind with my daughters and the boyfriend showing them everything we had discovered from the next day. We eventually caught up with my cousin and my son and nephew; they had gone on ahead and waited at the dead tree with the arrow carved in it. My cousin, son and nephew had a strange look upon there faces. I noticed it but thought nothing of it and we continued on for another hour. We were trying to locate a house that was described in the 1980's report that was to the south of an old Railroad grade that was used by the employees of the mining company to stay in to get out of the bad weather. This was of course abandoned during the 1900's when the mine shut down. In the 1980's report the sighting happened at this house. We knew if we found this old house that we were in the same location, well we did not find the house after another hour and the group wanted to head back. While leaving my cousin hung back with me and when we arrived at the dead tree with the arrow carved in it he revealed to me another green pine tree that was snapped off about 8 ft in the air next to this marked dead tree that wasn't there the day before. I was speechless and we hoofed it out got in the truck and left. This concluded our search in the spring of 2006 we were camping about 30 minutes away from this area at our old smelt camp and other than a conversation with my boy, nephew and cousin on the drive back home I haven't mentioned this to anyone. I definitely feel it involves another trip up in the fall and we have had that trip and I will be sending another report on what we experienced. I cannot speak for the rest of the guys but I am drawn to this place to find out more. I am not a Bigfoot researcher by any means; I have hunted in the north woods since I was 8yrs old. I am now 41 yrs old and stand about 6'4" and I am over 400lbs and I have feared nothing in my life but my father (More Respect) and God himself. I have to say though on this trip I felt uneasy when I saw the last tree that was snapped off 8ft in the air that I know wasn't there the day before, but yet I feel the need to go back and find out more. My cousin coincidentally has the same perspective on a return trip. The last paragraph will end this report with his thoughts. As a child growing up in the U.P., I have seen many different forms of wildlife. I have spent countless hours in the woods, exploring different areas near where I grew up. I have always been interested in, (and in my younger days scared of), bigfoot. I have read several books on the subject since the age of ten. I have never seen anything to suggest the existence of bigfoot first-hand, until this trip. It was a sobering experience to think that this creature could exist right in my old back yard. I think it is very likely. This area is fairly remote, with county roads being little more than two-tracks in the woods. The dense forest and swamps could easily conceal such creatures with relative ease. I look forward to the next opportunity to go up again and further investigate.

Other (Informational or Encounter History in the General Area) Notes:    In the spring of 1976, my cousin's sister was in this area looking for mushrooms, and she had witnessed seeing a sasquatch also. She had never told a soul until I had sent her the sighting report from that area, she finally came forward in an email sent to me and her brother (the above-mentioned cousin who went on this trip with me). She claimed while alone hunting for mushrooms (she could hear her parents but they were not in eyesight) along the side of a ravine, she heard the sound of rocks hitting and landing in the bottom of this ravine. She looked up and began looking around the rim of this ravine when she actually saw a creature throwing these rocks and watching them roll down the ravine and landing at the bottom (as if playing). At first she thought it was a bear but it was up on two legs and stood erect like a human, but was much larger. this creature looked right at her and threw a rock in her direction as to warn her to stay away.
