DATE:  August 1977

TIME:   Nighttime

LOCATION:  Camdenton, Missouri, Camden County

TERRAIN:      Wooded

OBSERVED:   While camping along a rather large creek with my father and cousins, we were awakened by a loud scream that went right through us. We could hear something large walking just outside the light of the campfire.  This creature continued to scream from time to time, moving closer to the light. This is when we smelled what seemed to be a skunk or something to that effect.  When it was approximately 50 feet from us, we heard limbs and small  trees broken off.  The creature then entered the creek which at the time was approximately eight feet deep and crossed it.  My father and I got into a boat that we had brought along and observed a muddy streak in the water where it had crossed.  We also saw where it had left the water to cross an open field. It was dark and overcast, so we could not make out any figure.  For approximately the next hour we could hear the creature scream in different locations, always circling our campsite. To this day not one of us has returned to this site.

ACTIVITIES OF WITNESSES:

DESCRIPTION OF CREATURE:    Didn't see.

OTHER NOTES:  After daylight, we saw the limbs that were broken off. My cousins were shaking as I was.

OTHER SIGHTINGS IN THIS AREA:  None that I know of.
