TIME:     9 PM

LOCATION:   Maries County, Missouri

TERRAIN:    Wooded

OBSERVED:    My brother (7) and myself (9) were on my grandpa's 300 acre farm in a very isolated area of the Missouri Ozarks in 1967. It was late Summer (exact date unknown). We decided that we were going to hunt rabbits on the farm with field tip arrows and a spot light. (Like I said, we were young kid s). We left the house a couple hours before dark, planning to get to the back end of the farm before dark and hunt with the spotlight coming back after dark. As we were walking on a high power line right away with woods on both sides, we heard a very large animal walking slightly behind us in the woods. Each time I said, "stop, listen"; we heard the large animal take 2-3 loud steps and then stop. This happened three times while it was still good daylight, but we  saw nothing even though it sounded like it was only 20-30 yards away. I even walked into the woods where I thought the animal was standing and saw nothing. I thought that maybe a cow or bull might be following us, but now that I think about the way it walked it

Additional Info:    Sounded like it walked on two feet. As it got darker, the animal was heard breaking several trees as it followed us. After dark, it sounded like a very large tree broke sounding like a 12 guage shotgun going off. At this time, we held our ground and made ready with spotlight and target arrows. We allowe the creature to come within 75 feet and then shined him with the spotlight. The animal was 10 foot tall, standing on two feet, and covered all over the body with long (6-8 inch ) very dark hair. The face just looked solid black with two huge red eyes that were about a foot apart. I could not tell if the face was covered with hair or not (it just looked black without any features except those big red eyes). As we held the spotlight on the animal for 5-6 seconds, it just stood there rocking back and forth sideways with its knees slightly bent like a football linebacker getting ready to make a tackle. We saw enough in those 5-6 seconds; and took off running, screaming and crying all the way back to grandpa's.

Activities of Witness:    Possibly related to this sighting. There was an old vacant farm house located on the back of this property. A couple years prior to the above sighting a bunch of us grandkids were playing in the upstairs of the old house and found a pile of long dark coarse hair laying on the upstairs floor. There were also some rather large bones laying around upstairs. There were no windows outside of the old house. But, there were many large bones laying around the outside of the old house. I do remember many a dead cow laying around the property, but do not recall them being eaten on. The property was loaded with deer, turkey, and other wild game. Plus, there was several ponds, streams, and springs on the property. There was also a 8 X 8 foot site on the property covered with shotput size rocks that my grandpa said was an Indian gravesite. But, I wonder what was really buried there? There were also fossilized large three toed tracks in rock on the property that I assume were dinosuar tracks?

Description of Creature:  We returned the next morning looking for tracks, but only found where the animal looked like it drug its feet in the dry leaves as it followed us inside the woods. The two feet drag marks in the leaves were about four foot spread apart. Where the foot drags came in contact with three trees, the green trees were twisted off about four feet above the ground. The trees were "twisted off", not broken or pushed over. No foot prints were seen on the hard dry ground.

Other Notes:    N/A

Other (Informational or Encounter History in the General Area) Notes:    Seen a few reports nearby on some BF sites around the same time period of 1967. I also called this thing the "ten foot red eyed monster" until I first heard of BF around 1970 and realized that this was what I saw in 1967. Every time I tell this story, the hair stands up on my neck and arms!
