DATE:            1900's

TIME:

LOCATION:      Ethel, Attala County, Mississippi

TERRAIN:       Wooded

OBSERVED:     The region where my grandparents lived is called Persimmon Ridge and below it is a place called the Burns Rebrake after Mr. Homer Burns who owned the land. In the early 1900s after WWI my greatgrandfather tried to clear the land but something drove him and another man out. They never went back and wouldn't talk about it. Coon hunters called it the Burns Booger, which supposedly would beat their dogs if they came near.My father had a pack of hounds whipped. In the early sixties-62 0r 63-something went to screaming in the woods at night. The old folks naturally called it a panther, but the last panther had come through in the forties. There are numerous rivers in the area and Attala Co. is adjacent to Choctaw co. I believe the modern lumber companies have wrecked its habitat in that area now.

Persimmons, which are a favorite food of Bigfoot, are plentiful in the area as are peach trees. And the farmers used to keep the acreage in corn and melons.

The old timers always described as manlike but wouldn't go into too much detail., I have ridden and hunted in the area since the sixties event and have not seen anything-but this was during daylight hours. Paper company has clear cutted a lot of the land where it wasn't too marshy-there is creek that runs through the area.

ACTIVITIES OF WITNESS(ES):

DESCRIPTION OF CREATURE:    The old timers always described as manlike but wouldn't go into too much detail.

OTHER SIGHTINGS IN THIS AREA?:     My grandfather and father were hunting when they saw one standing by a dying fire that they and a couple of other hunters had made. Another time they heard their hounds being beaten by something-one of the hounds-a big cur named Rock-didn't come home for several days.
