TIME:               8:00 P.M., Central Daylight Time
 

LOCATION:     Prentiss County, Mississippi
 

TERRAIN:        A mixture of open fields and swampy woods.
 

OBSERVED:   When I moved here in December, I soon started hearing stories about strange occurrences and bigfoot sightings in the XXXX XXXX XXXX area.  I heard first-hand several stories from guys that went hunting in that area and had dogs come up missing.  They told me that anytime you run dogs through that area, one or two come up missing.  There are lots of other stories too.  I decided to investigate the area.

My son and I went into the area on March 27, 2001, and explored.  We immediately found a large number of broken and bowed over trees and teepee stick formations.  We found sign in a large area of several miles radius, and up and down the XXXXXXXXXXX, but it was concentrated in the area just south of the XXX XXXX.  We stayed until after dark at the end of a field road just south of the field.

We were outside the truck listening and eventually heard some birdcall sounds and then movement in the woods.  I had my dog Bo with us.  He's half German Shepherd and half Alaskan Malamute, weighs 110 lbs and kills coyotes on a regular basis and attacks them instantly.  He began acting nervous, my son and I both began to feel threatened, and the movements were all around us.  So, we got out of there.

On Sunday afternoon, 04/08/01, I went back to the same area.  I looked around for a couple of good areas to set up and watch and listen.  I went to the first place at dusk and stayed there for 30 to 45 minutes and didn't hear anything significant.  Then, I drove back to the end of the road south of the XXXX XXXXX.  When I first drove up to the area and stopped the truck, I heard a hyena type laughing sound really close and it went down a hill to the west, towards a slough and then I heard really loud splashing in the slough.  It sounded like three or four large animals hitting the water and crossing the slough, and all the while the hyena noise was being made by the creature on the left side.  Bo got out of the truck and was pacing back and forth at the edge of the woods, looking towards the sounds.  It was about 10 minutes to 8:00 P.M. at this time.

Then once the splashing was over with, it got quiet.  After about 10 minutes, I got out my knocking sticks and did three knocks and a barred owl call answered me back from down across the slough to the west. But I could tell it really wasn't an owl.  I answered back with an owl call and another one answered from the woods behind me to the northeast.  In a couple of minutes, owl calls started coming from the south, across a field.  And then there were answering calls from behind me to the NE across the field where there is the largest concentration of sign.  And then calls started to the east and SE of me across a field and then also to the NW of me.

There aren't that many owls anywhere in the woods and we were surrounded again.  I was shining my flashlight all around me and I saw two red eyes glowing from across the field to the south. After about five seconds it growled a deep, resonant growl and turned its head and started across the field towards the woods southeast of me where one of the owl calls were coming from.  By this time, Bo was scared and had jumped up in the truck bed and then climbed up on the roof of the truck and hunkered down.  I got up in the bed and made him get down off the roof of the truck.  There were owl calls coming constantly from at least 8 to 10 locations in the woods all around me, and I could tell they weren't real owls.  There were so many calls, it felt like they were trying to daze and confuse me.

I began to hear movement in the scope of woods to the east of me and it sounded like two distinct sets of footsteps and they were getting closer, but I couldn't see any eyes glowing.  All I had for light was a six D-cell Mag Light.  Bo ran around to the front of the truck and jumped and climbed up the grill guard and got up on the hood and then back on the roof of the truck (and scratched the paint on my hood badly).   By now, I could also hear movement in the woods to the west and northwest of me.  I began to feel very threatened even though I was armed with a riot gun loaded with 00 buckshot.  I went to get in the truck and Bo came flying off the roof and rooted past me and jumped up into the truck ahead of me.  I jumped in and we got the hell outta there fast.  This was at 8:08 P.M.

There is a place about a xxxxxxx to the north that is lighted and overlooks the field, so I went to there.  At the place, I ran into a couple that I had seen around some and talked with them.  They both said that they had heard that same hyena sound in that area before.  I listened for the owl calls but they had stopped.  I came on in home and I was still on edge and nervous when I got here.  Bo got out of the truck and slinked into the house and got in my closet like he had been whipped.
 

ACTIVITIES OF WITNESS(ES): Investigating sightings reports and exploring the area.
 

DESCRIPTION OF CREATURE:  Saw red eyes glowing about 150 yds away when I shined my flashlight across a field.  Eyes appeared to be maybe 8 ft off the ground.,
 

OTHER NOTES:   This encounter happened on the edge of a vast forest covering  many acres that has little or no road access to it.  Even on the public roads in the area, the locals avoid it completely, starting in late afternoon.  We never saw another vehicle in the area past 4:00 P.M..  One of the landowners in this area is terrified to go there after dusk and will not get out of his truck.

My son under the big push down.  These are ambush sites along a huge deer trail.
The limbs that are on the end of the bow to the right of Bo were stuck into the ground
about 8 inches and I couldnt find where they had come from.
