This was told to me by my Dad, so it is second hand info- I didn't witness
it personally. After my Dad got out of the Marine Corps and back from Korea
he liked to get away from people periodically and just relax. The
best place he knew to do this was at his Grandfather's place, a hand built
stone house about 5 miles outside of present day Brandon. No one lived
there at the time, as his Grandfather had passed on years prior to this.
He went out there to relax and clear his mind. Anyway, one night
he went to an area about 50 to 75 feet from the house where they used to
burn trash, which is what I think he was doing also. After just a
few minutes he said he heard a sound like a woman being murdered just a
few yards from where he was standing. He didn't hang around one second
longer and ran back to the house. He always attributed it to a panther,
but none have been ever sighted around here since the 1930's. Back
then the area was considered WAY out in the country but now with progress
its only a couple hundred acres of woods here and there, very spotty.
I don't know if it was a BF or not but it probably is no longer around
the way the area has grown in the last 30 years, also there are so many
good ole boys hunting I'm sure it would have been shot if it was hanging
around, but no one has EVER killed a panther around there to my knowledge.
