REPORT RECEIVED FromThe GCBRO Online Report Submission Form.

DATE:    07/12/1988

TIME:    12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

LOCATION:   North Carolina, Lee County

TERRAIN:    Wooded with a Swampy area

OBSERVED:    The first encounter a friend and I were skate boarding behind a church I attended. I saw a wild dog and her puppies running across the field next to the church. Like all young teens we decided to catch one. We left our skate boards next to my 3 wheeler and set out to catch a puppy. The dogs went into an old house which later I was told it was a slave house back during the civil war. Any ways, the house was falling apart and surrounded by woods and a briar patch. We avoided the briar patch and went into the old house. On the porch was a bail of hay and inside the floor was full of holes and had old bails of hay just inside the door way. I sat down and my friend went about trying to reach under the house through the holes in the floor to get one of the puppies. He gave up and went to try outside. I remain inside the house. He came back in within a few minutes and asked if I heard anything I told him no and went outside to see if I could hear anything. He remained inside and went back to trying to catch one of the puppies. He got hold of one and when he pulled it out it yelled and within seconds of the yelp I heard the sound as well as him. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up and it was no sound I have ever heard before. It was more of a howl and it started at a low pitch and went higher. If you had some way of putting sound on hear I could try to imitate the howl. Do to my hunting experiences I knew the howl or whatever it came from was coming towards us and moving fast. Right then I knew what it was.. don't ask me how but I knew. I told my friend it was a big foot and it was ticked off. We had to get the heck out of there. We crawled through the path the dogs had made through the briar patch ran to my 3 wheeler and headed to the local store just down the road. We left our skate boards and some other stuff behind. I finally got the nerve to go back to get the stuff after about 3 hours of nerve settling. In that time and after explaining what happened. No one laughed and several others had their on stories to tell

The second encounter took place a month or two later. My cousin and I were out in the woods at night near his house just messing around cause we were bored. As we were going through the woods we took a short cut that brought us close to on of the neighbors house. We stop do to hearing sounds coming from behind the neighbors house. We knelt down and listened. It was growling and we could here something being rattled. The growl was too high pitched for a bear and too low pitched for a cat. My cousin gestured for us to move on after listening for a few minutes. We came out on a dirt road and were heading back to the main road to his house. My cousin looked behind us then suddenly the blood drained from his face and he yelled run. We ran all the way back to his house. When we got inside the house he locked the doors. Once we had our breath back I asked him what he saw. He said he heard something behind us and when he turned to look a 7 foot tall hairy creature came out of the woods onto the dirt road. I moved in with my brother about a month after for obvious reasons. I just now finally moved back into the same area after about 20 years.

Activities of Witness:   Skateboarding

Description of Creature:    Can't describe it due to not seeing it with my own eyes.

Other Notes:  I have heard the creature on two occasions, once during the day and once at night, at a different location but in the same area.  Other local people have seen the creature, one on several occasions.

Additional Notes or Comments   There's another creature that is a strange black panther that I have seen with my own eyes as well as my brother and two of my cousins. My cousins describe it as a cat body with a dog feature head. it has been around for over 25 years. Not sure about the life span of a panther so can't say what is exactly.
