LOCATION:   Mitchell County, North Carolina

TERRAIN:    Mountains

OBSERVED:

Right at dusk, I heard a weird noise about 50-75 meters up in the woods from my house. I have since heard almost the exact sound on other BF sites. Samuri Chatter they call it. Except while the chatter I've heard on other sites seems as tho the creature is alarmed or stressed, the chatter I heard was more melodic, as tho the creature expressing joy, which makes sense because I was working on some of the 5000 Christmas Lights I had put up. I live in the middle of nowhere and I believe my Christmas Lights drew the critter in. I've heard every animal there is in these mountains and I've never heard anything like it. About 2-2 & 1/2 later, as I was on the porch having a cigarette, I heard 2 VERY LOUD woodknocks coming from the area of my shed which is about 50 meters from the house. I immediately grabbed a shotgun & as my son held the spotlight we checked out the shed. Nothing

Additional Things:

One of my fearless mutts, Odin, heard the chatter also. And usually he would tear fearlessly up into the woods, he just stood at the edge not making a sound.

Activities of Witness:

I was standing at the tailgate of my Blazer, working on a spotlight that was part of my Christmas display.

Description of Creature:  If you would listen to other recordings of the Samuri Chatter, it sounds as if the critter is agitated. Now hypothesis the same critter fascinated & enjoying a colorful, brightly lit display in the middle of nowhere. The basic vocalization would be the same, but the tone & cadence would be a little different.

Other (Informational or Encounter History in the General Area) Notes:

Since then I was sitting on my porch in the middle of the day when across a field down in a small holler about 200 meters away, I heard a log, not a stick, but a log snap & the sound of something stumbling. I could track the sounds moving up & across the ridge & it eventually circled behind me. I could hear the snap of sticks breaking as it walked.

Additional Notes and or Follow up Comments N/A
