TERRAIN:    River bottom

OBSERVED:

I was around 12 years of age at the time and at that time i spent most of my time running up and down the republican river bottom. I had spent the night cat fishing at one of the local sand pits around ten in the morning I gathered up my things and headed for home. I walk the game trail that ran along the edge of the river as I had done several times throughout the year rather it be hunting,Trapping or fishing. As I approached a spot in the river were a huge tank had blown into the river several years earlier. I herd a clacking sound coming from the area of the tank. I couldn't see the tank yet but being real familiar with the area I could tell the sound was coming from there. I slowed down and stopped to listen my first thought was someone was netting fish from inside the tank as i often did. I set my things down and moved closer and as I came around the bend in the river were the tank was submerged in the river I saw what I thought was a bear or something and i froze in fear. The animal did not see me and continued doing what it had been. It was smashing clams on a rock  that lay on the bank of the river I saw his hand reach down and pick up a clam just as i would. he was facing away from me kind of side ways. It was knelt down and appeared to have fur covering his entire body. I started to move back slowly He turned and looked right at me kind of over his right shoulder. At that time I saw it was no bear and looked to be a man covered in reddish fur. He did not bolt of. He rose up on two feet and fully turned to face me with his body. I said he because I could clearly see what distinguishes between male and female as i looked down trying not to make eye contact. He looked over to the opening of the tank and grunted and that's when i herd water splashing and looked over to see a second one emerge from the tank and it was clearly a female. She moved quickly to the bank and both then jumped up the bank and disappeared into the trees. I quickly went the other way and ran all the way to the safety of town. I then told my dad what happened and he did not believe me and laughed it off. I later went back to retrieve my things I left behind and in the sand i  clearly saw tracks and all the clam shells that were broken on the rock. There was also a small stack of clams beside the rock that were neatly stacked that had not been broke,  open. I brought my shotgun with me when i returned to get my things and i was scared to death the hole time. My dad asked me about it when i returned home with my stuff and i told him of the tracks and he said he would go with me in the  morning to look. He did but the tracks were unidentifiable and the stack of clams were gone all that remained were the broken ones. So needless to say I was not be believed by him. I then told friends from school and was heckled over it for a few days and then a harvest crew guy rolled his wheat truck about a mile from where my sighting was and he claimed two hairy men ran out in front of him in the road causing the wreck. I know what I saw. The mail was around 7 feet tall and the female was slightly smaller in height. they both were very muscular looking with about the same build. I don't remember having eye contact with the female but the male i did. he had  fear in his eyes and i could tell there was some kind of humanity there. The nose was very wide sitting on the face as ours. the mouth was just as ours the skin was dark on the face with hare lacking around the eyes nose and upper cheek area. I was close around 30 feet and slightly above them on the bank. The bank was around three feet above the water level. When the mail rose up he was about eye level. I looked down in a submissive way instinctively and i often wish i would not have because there was something about its eyes that intrigued me and i will never forget looking into them. I have had feelings several times wile in the woods that i was being watched and two years ago wile deer hunting with my wife I heard a loud tree knock and then a whistle from the other direction. Those are the only other strange things that have ever happened to me in all the years i have spent in the woods. I have also spent many hours behind a spotlight coon hunting without a single incidence.
