DATE:    03/10/01

TIME:     11:00 am

LOCATION:   Grafton County, New Hampshire.  In mountains, near Lincoln or Waterville Valley

TERRAIN:   Mountains

OBSERVED:      During a 10 day camping trip, I set out from the Snwomobile trail for 3 days of solo
camping.  I walked down the hill, and about 150 yards into the woods.  This winter, there was
a moderate amount of snow, 2-3 feet.  The week before the temperatures had risen, and some of
the snow had melted.  The temperature fell again, so there was a layer of ice 1 to 2 inches of
ice.  When wearing snowshoes, because of the ice, a large section around the footprint would
be caved in.  If you were wearing just your boot, a straight print would be made because the
ice couldn't support you.  While walking into my campsite, going perpendicular to my direction
were bi-pedal prints around 17 to 19 inches long and around 7 inches in width.

There were no features to the print, both of a natural; nature, like toes or ridges in the
feet, and there were no markings that a snowshoe would make.  I convinced myself that these
prints were made before the snow had melted and refroze, because if they were made after the
ice they were too big for a human body, and not the right size or characteristic of snowshoes
in that ice.

Activities of Witness:  Camping

Description of Creature:      No

Other Notes:   The characteristics of the ice, and walking on it with snowshoes, caved in the ice
around the actual print.  These large, defined prints looked like they were made recently, as
they broke they ice.  The print had not beet made before the thaw because there was not a
layer of ice on the bottom prints
