REPORT RECEIVED: From the G.C.B.R.O. Web Site Submission Form

DATE:            06/15/79

TIME:             Approx. 10:00 am

LOCATION:   Near Tahlequah Oklahoma, Cherokee County

TERRAIN:  Wooded

OBSERVED:  I was walking on the land that my family owns, just messing around, looking for squirrels and rabbits. I was carrying a .22 rifle, but wasn't really hunting, more killing time. After walking along one of the ridges, I sat down off to one side to see if any deer or turkey would wander past below me in the hollow. After a little while of sitting very still and quiet, I heard what sounded like someone walking along the next ridge behind me. I have always been interested in animals, and know the difference between 2 feet walking in leaves and 4 feet. Since we own over 3 full sections of land,  each section being a square mile.   I wondered who was walking around. I slid around the tree I was sitting against and peeked over the ridgetop.

What I saw was not a person, but it was NOT an animal. I saw a very large, powerfully built hominid. Huge shoulders, massive sloping head and neck, and totally covered in what seemed to be brownish/black hair, maybe 2" long on average. It was sort of squatting down and digging in the ground. I was watching it dig into the soil and pull what looked like roots out and then biting them. After a good 5 minutes it suddenly straightened and started to look slowly around. When it scanned across the ridge where I was, it locked onto my eyes. It stood up and still watching me started to walk over the ridge it was on to put the ridge between us. It took only a few steps to get out of my sight, but I could hear it start to "pick up the pace" after it cleared my sight.

I was never frightened, but still felt frozen in place. After a while, I walked over to where it had been and looked at the roots it was pulling. They were wild onions. I still go out to this area and have hunted deer, squirrel, and turkey on it.

Activities of Witness:  Walking around, basically killing time. Sat down to rest and see if any animals would walk past.

Description of Creature:  A very large, powerfully built hominid. Huge shoulders, massive sloping head and neck, and totally covered in what seemed to be brownish/black hair, maybe 2" long on average.

Other Notes:

Other Sightings in this Area: I have heard stories from some of the Cherokee Indians of "Wild Men", but had never seen anything to think they were in this area.
