TIME: 8:15 pm
LOCATION: Hughes
County, Oklahoma
TERRAIN: Wooded
OBSERVED: My
2 younger cousins and myself decided to go predator hunting
after dark on my grandfather's farm. We each had a
dying rabbit call. We set on a pond dam about 100
yards from the house overlooking a wooded area with a small
creek. We would blow for a bit and listen. We
heard something very big coming thru the trees and brush in
a very big hurry. It was really cracking the
limbs. It came upon us very fast and we turned our
lights on. All we could see was 2 very large, wide set
red eyes very close to us. We know it wasn't a cow or
bull. The eyes were even with us and we were up on the
pond dam 7 to 10 feet above it. It really scared us, I
remember firing at least 3 times with a 12 gauge shotgun
right below the eyes and my cousins each fired at least once
with shotguns. Each time we would shoot the eyes would
blink. We ran back to the house as fast as we could
go. We never went back to check for foot prints,
blood, or anything. Back in 1962 no one ever heard of
bigfoot. We told our grandfather and parents but no
one believed us.
Additional Things:
Over
the years it never made sense of what came upon us that
night until I read on various websites about bigfoot being
in Oklahoma. This had to be something very big and
tall to look straight into those eyes when it was standing
at the base of the pond dam. I'm 68 years old now and
want to pass this true story on before it's too late.
I have no reason to lie or embellish the story.
Activities of Witness:
Sitting very quite, then blow
on predator calls for about 15 seconds then listen for more
then 5 minutes.
Description of Creature: When
we turned our lights on all we could see were the
eyes. The creature had to be a very dark brown or
black to see no other details. The eyes had to be a
good 5" apart. We didn't smell anything or see
anything else.
The farm is about 1 mile from the South Canadian River and
the creek we were overlooking runs into the river.
Other Notes: My
grandfather is long gone now and his old place has been
developed a lot more and a lot of the trees are gone now.
Over the years I've reflected that it was one of those "if
only" moments that I had used a flash camera instead of a
gun.
Other (Informational or Encounter History in the General
Area) Notes:
Never heard of bigfoot until
35 years later. Only other thing is our grandfathers
dog would bark at something over toward the small mountain
West of his place but would not go that direction for
anything. He was usually not afraid of anything.
