Report Posted To GCBRO Web Site On  October 5, 2012

DATE:    10/11/2002

TIME:     after 11 P.M.

LOCATION:   Hardeman County, Tennessee

TERRAIN:    Wooded, Swamps, & Pasture all within 100 yards

OBSERVED:    I wanted to submit this report because this was my first encounter.  I have submitted several reports from this area.  Our church had planned a kids campout and the landowners were gracious enough to have us.  The camp was located about 150 yards south of their house  in a cow pasture by a pond.  Sometime after 11 o'clock we turned in for the night.  We had about seven or eight tents with about twelve kids and six adults out there that night.  The landowners son and I did a lot of the setting up for the camp that afternoon.  Not long after we turned in for the night (everyone was in his/her tent) I heard this powerful, and frightening howl.  This was coming from the woods to our northeast about 150 - 200 yards away.  It sounded very similar to the moaning howl (bigfoot) recorded in Ohio except without the dog barking.  Then it howled again.  I don't remember how many more times, but I was quite frightened.  My wife heard it, and also my daughter.  I recall that their was a faint answer to the howls coming from the  woods to our east-southeast.  A couple of minutes passed when I decided to venture out of the tent, and do two things.  One - to keep a keen eye on that patch of woods, especially the fence row separating the cow pasture from the woods.  Two - to put more wood on the fire.  I did not see anything, and back in 2002 I had  really good eyesight.  The one thing I did see was in one of the chairs by the campfire; a really scared Jack Russell Terrier dog.  This was the landowners' dog.

Additional Info:    N/A

Activities of Witness:    Earlier during the camp-out we participated in a scavenger hunt.  This hunt occurred in the immediate area as well as to the west.  I felt like something was watching us from the nearby woods.

Description of Creature:  Whatever made this sound had to be very large.  An opera singer could not have done this.

Other Notes:    N/A

Other (Informational or Encounter History in the General Area) Notes:    There have been several occurrences in this area, some of which I have reported.

Additional Notes and or Follow up Comments This is an addition to same report I gave earlier about the three yells, and the moved fishing rod.

Additional things: The landowner's son and I were the last ones to go to bed.  Our campfire was almost out.  My son recently read the former report, and said that he remembered hearing the yells.  The yells were a very deep "oh" sound.  He did not recall any footsteps.  He probably awoke to my coming into the tent, and after the yells went back to sleep.  My wife does recall the footsteps.  She was in the northernmost tent with the girls, and must have been stirred by the footsteps.  One of the neighbors that I figured was pulling a prank weighed around 300lbs. at that time.  (I will say again that it wasn't him.)  The footsteps sounded heavy.  I was in the southernmost tent, and the fishing rod was placed just outside the south end of my tent.  A cold front had come through on Friday evening causing the wind to be from the north.  Therefore even though I am almost 100% certain that a Sasquatch was just outside my tent I could not smell him/her.  This Sasquatch would have been within two feet of my feet, which were on the south end of my tent.  I stepped out of tent several minutes after the footsteps were no longer heard.  The vocalizations made around 5 A.M. did frighten at least one of the children.  My wife has not and said that she will not have another campout at this location again.

Creature description: The vocalizations at 12:45 A.M. were deep and powerful.  The footsteps were made by something bipedal and heavy.

Activities: Church campout for the children on Friday night-Saturday morning.

Neighboring areas: There has plenty of Bigfoot activity in this area.
