OBSERVED:    This particular trapping season odd things kept happening to my sets. I would find traps gone and the sets barely disturbed, or sticks poked into the traps throwing them. I initially blamed some of the local boys for messing with my trap line until the morning of my discovery. I was running my traps as usual when I came upon a large pine that the bark had been peeled off of all the way to the trunk of the tree and the white was showing. It was peeled starting about 11 feet up.  On the ground below the tree all the pinestraw and bark had been raked into a circle around the tree. Balanced on the straw on a piece of bark was an empty sardine can.  Looking around I found some long brownish black hair on one of the saplings close to the skinned tree.  This hair was unlike any on any critter I had ever seen.  The area had a musky smell, almost like that of a mink or ferret.
