TIME:     4:30 am

LOCATION:   Coryell County, Texas

TERRAIN:    Old family farm.  Property had 2 hills on it. 1 on the west side and 1 on the east. Hills were heavily wooded but had a mix of rocky ground with loose soil in some areas and others were grassy areas. The Valley in between the 2 hills was very grassy with very little trees and with a small creek running along the east side of it up against the east hill in the tree line.

OBSERVED:    Me and my stepfather arrived on the property at around 4 am or earlier. we applied another coat of scent blocker to all our clothes we loaded our guns and then began walking across the 40 acre field that is just inside the entrance to our property. Once we got to the far side my step-father settled into his hunting blind leaving me on my own to walk on to my hunting spot, my spot which consisted of some downed branches next to a big tree next to the creek, was probably a good 3/4 mile walk or more away. i made the walk quickly using all the shortcuts i could remember, seeing as i walked in the dark rarely using my small flashlight. and got to to my spot around 4:15. once i was there i checked the wind which was blowing to the north-northeast. so i placed my buck lure about 150 yd. in from of me and returned to my spot. i settled under the tree branches and sprayed some scent cover and began to wait for daylight. at around 4:45 i noticed the sounds of the goat herd that are kept on our property heading toward me, which annoyed me because they commonly ruin a good hunting position. When it sounded as if they were getting close and i was about ready to leave and try to find a better spot before sun up i heard them suddenly change direction and they seemed to head back to the direction they came from, i didn't think much of it and sat back down. about 10 minutes later i began to hear footsteps in the distance to my east they sounded very heavy with alot of time in-between each step but they still sounded very far away. after 5 minutes had passed i could still hear them and they were getting closer very quickly. i began to get a little frightened for not knowing what would be making these foot sounds.  i pointed my rifle in its direction and held as still as i possibly could. the steps continued to get closer till it sounded like they were no more than 10 or 15 feet away before the creature stopped. then it sounded like it made a very quick turn as if it were about to retreat but in doing so i believe it tripped itself somehow because the next thud i heard sounded like someone had just dropped a full grown cow from about 4 feet off the ground then it sounded as if it scrambled to its feet and began to run away with still the very heavy sounding footfalls but a much quicker rate this time and they faded into the distance in what seemed like 8-10 strides of this creatures run.

Activities of Witness:   I was hunting that day.. we always liked to get on the land very early to let wildlife settle back into the area once we got into our hunting positions and quieted down so the deer would be more relaxed about entering the area. Camouflage was worn scent blockers and scent covers were used heavily

Description of Creature:  Nothing was seen AT ALL. it was pitch black...no moon and overcast skies that morning. What was heard was very heavy footsteps and very heavy raspy breathing once it was closer to me.

Other Notes:    N/A

Other (Informational or Encounter History in the General Area) Notes:    Yes- but they were encounters that happened after the above description. it was almost 2 years after the first encounter of mine i got brave and a little stupid and returned to the property in the middle of the night and hiked to the west side of the land and built a camp fire on a rock flat. i wasn't there with the intention for another close encounter and that is why i built the fire, i was mainly there to see if i could hear any of the sounds that other people have described in the encounters, but instead something began to rustle in the woods just behind me (to the SW of were i was) and then began shaking the small trees at that spot. i refused to leave and yelled out saying "who's there?" and "anyone playing some joke should come out!" then "i said i will shoot into the trees!". when no one responded and suddenly a rock cam flying through the trees and hit right into the middle of my fire I squeezed off a couple of .308 cal rifle rounds into the trees that had been a shaking.

In the 2nd encounter after i fired my rifle another rock came flying. this time it seemed to be aimed more toward me but landed near my feet about 6 inches away. so i decided to pack my stuff up and hike back to the car and even on my way down the hill a stick was flung at me and actually struck my back pack as i was wearing it. It seemed to enrage me for some reason i cant explain and without even thinking i turned around and emptied the rifle into the trees which would have been 8 more rounds since i had a 10 round mag. loaded up. I made it back to the car with no further incident but until i got out of the trees and back into the open field at the front of the land it seemed as if he was following me but keeping good distance because as i walked i constantly heard rustling behind me that were consistent to anyone just walking in the woods.
