Report Received From: The GCBRO Online Report Submission Form.

DATE:    November 13, 2004

TIME:     6:00 pm - 1:00 am

LOCATION:   Liberty County, Texas

TERRAIN:    Wooded, Swampy

OBSERVED:    This is what was told to me by my family there. Two of the guys went to one of the deer leases they have to do some deer hunting just evening. xxxx1 and his partner xxxx2 are experienced hunters and outdoorsmen so I do not believe they would make up a tell like this at all.  xxxx1 was surprised by a buck and he shot it. They knew they had gotten it for the blood trail they were following. The men along with another person named XXXXX heard as they walked up to the deer something big breathing and making a roaring or growling sound at them. Once they found the deer and the noises made them think that something was waiting for them to leave at which time they did. On Sunday morning xxxx2 went back and took some photos of the area. The area was in treed area that had trees
knocked down and blood from the deer everywhere.
Blood and hair was found about 15 yards from where they found the deer and up one of the trees there. The strangest thing that there was NO drag marks. The deer had to be carried to that spot. If this was a cougar how could a full grown cougar carry a white-tail deer
without leaving a drag trail? Even a bear would leave drag marks. I myself have hunted in the East Texas woods around this area and on
over to Central Texas. Cougars are not know to leave a kill the way this was left.

Activities of Witness:   The men were out hunting. had went to another deer lease to leave some deer corn. they went to the other deer lease where this occurred sometime around 5-6pm on saturday evening. the two men trailed a white-tailed deer till past mid-night after one of them had shot the deer.

Description of Creature:  Growling or a type of roaring sound.  The sounds that the animal was making made it sound a large animal. unknown if any odor was notice at this time. well find out more later. unknown if any tracks were noticed

Other Notes:    No drag marks from the deer to where it was finished off. No sounds (i.e. birds, insects, etc..) the next morning when photos were taken.

Additional Notes and or Follow up Comments Upon contact the witness had no additional information to add to this report.
