DATE:          11/27/92
(The date that I submitted is an approximate date.)

TIME:           10:45  P.M.

LOCATION: Upshur County, Texas

TERRAIN:    Swampy

OBSERVED:    I moved to this area in (at age 13) 1982.  I spent my teen years and 20's in this location.  I am an avid outdoorsman and photographer.

We had lost many..many baby goats...I was mad because I thought some "person" was stealing them...but I later found the legs and hoofs in a small stream about 400 yards away from where they had disappeared from.  Some of the big "Stag" and "Billy" goats were killed too....but looked like they were not eaten on much...sometimes not at all...but they had broken legs.

After I figured out that some wild animal(s) was the culprit...I set traps(I hate trapping in general though)...big ones...I used goat liver, fat and kidneys for bait.  I was pretty gung ho about it and usually just carried a .22LR Revolver with me when I ran the trap line.

I didn't catch anything for 2 weeks.(not counting 2 possums) And then one Sunday morning, early I ran the traps faithfully as always.  Well...I couldn't believe it!   The bait was gone!  I had it nailed up high on the trees.  I had the trap chains nailed to the trees too..and staked...and with drag hooks attached.  THE TRAPS WERE GONE!

The steel rings were stretched out into almost a straight line from pull pressure and the chain link broken.  The animal was caught in 2 traps (one-#3 and one #4) Double Spring Steel Traps..and it made a horrible opening throught the brush towards the North.  I felt bad because it ran off with the traps and would be suffering...I had to hunt it down and finish it...but NOT WITH THAT .22!

I went back home..loaded out the dogs...got my parents and loaded for bear.  You could smell that stink smell.  I saw tracks that looked like the tracks on your web-site..but they were not big like those..they were small like a man's foot..but they had an EXTREME CURVATURE...like weird man...you know almost like the way a "New Moon" is shaped in the sky.

Anyway...to make a long story short..those bad-ass hound dogs wouldn't have nothing to do with it!  They huddled close to our legs and kept jumping back into the pick-up truck...but thankfully my little cow dog went with us and I found the traps.  I found 1 trap...it was still clamped down on some dirty white..almost wooly-like hair (same as the hair I found on barbed wire where the goats were killed)..and about 3 weeks later I found the other trap about another 200 yards away from the first one...so at least I could sleep better knowing that the animal had gotten rid of those traps.

I could tell you lots of stories but it would take up too much space...we never really thought of it as a "Big Foot" because the hair was white.  It likes to eat deer and goats though...and it will kill dogs.  I've heard that "tree beating" so much that it don't bother me no more.  I used to deer hunt alot and I've heard that BIG SOUNDING STUFF come crashing through the woods..and whatever it was scared the hell out of those deer.

I would be glassing (setting up high in an old elm tree) the deer (at edge of pasture)..looking for a nice buck..and then hear that crap...those deer would get the hell out of there then!  Whatever it was makes a loud high pitched "screaching sound" sometimes...and it runs with heavy thuds..and big HEAVY splashes through the water.

Quite frankly...I was glad that I always deer hunt out of the top of trees instead of down low or on the ground like my friends.  Anyway...those things would run right up to the edge of the woods and stop...then you could smell that awful smell...kind of like (hogs mixed with sewage.)

Before you hear those things running you almost always hear that tree beating..maybe 500 yards away...and spaced maybe...300 yards apart(until they get close and then meet up).   I've heard some really bad howling too and a couple of screams..but figured it was cougar...or something.

I don't understand why but you can tell when those things are watching you...your hair on the back of your neck will stand up...and sometimes you will smell them...but not always.  The birds wilI quit singing too...that ain't good...time to go home when that happens.  I always depend on my dogs...I keep lots of dogs...they know when those things come around.

To be honest though...I don't think they like people..but don't seem to want to hurt you if you LEAVE their area.  If you shoot at them though...it runs them off but I get the feeling they hunt (harass) you then..and cause a lot more losses to your live stock...just senseless killing..and don't eat the kills.

I've been within maybe 10 yards (at night about 10:45 pm) to one of those things and even saw the underbrush still swinging (after I fired warning shots from my pistol)...didn't see the animal though.  The smell made me feel like I would vomit though..literally.  I almost puked.  I don't drink or use drugs either by the way..and don't go to shrinks.  I wouldn't tell you this stuff..except looks like you are just investigating.

One of my friends who deer hunts with me has seen it.  He saw it last (first day of Bow season) Saturday (Sept. 29, 2001)  That is why I am filling out this report now.  He is so scared that he won't even go back out there to get his hunting stuff..he's out of cigarrtettes too..and won't go back to get his carton or his hunting supplies!

This  is what he told me:  "Charlie...something an't right out there..there is something out there!" (he was shaking and chain smoking his sister's Marlboros)  I had loaned him my extra compound bow and arrows to hunt with because he didn't have a bow...and some camo hunting clothes..he was unloading that stuff out of his truck and giving it back to me..and he said he will "never go back out there again!"

He said..he was set up in a good spot but hunting on the ground because he didn't have a deer stand.  It was getting close to dusk..and he heard something big coming through the brush...he was hunting in what we used to call "the goat pen" (we used to lock the livestock up at night in that area.... when we lived out there..).we don't live there anymore though and it is all grown up with weeds and brush now.  Anyway...he saw something walking up-right...and it looked like it was carrying a deer....so then he got excited because he thught his Brother-in-law had killed a nice deer and was bringing it back to field dress and skin.

Then the thing dissappeared!...Ok...then everything got QUIET.  It wasn't his brother-in- law.  Also..No more birds or frogs or anything!  Then (about 15 minutes later) he heard that heavy walking again!  And he drew back his bow and arrow because he figured it was a deer...but it wasn't!  It was some BIG WHITE THING!  He said it was about 7 foot tall...it had a body like a bear and it has RED EYES.  He said the head looks like a possum or a coon (racoon) though...and lots of white on the face...and the wole thing is dirty white in color.  He told me he won't ever forget those red eyes...and then it started eating something right there in front of him!  It scared him bad and he got the hell out of there and raced over to my house and told me the story and gave me my bow and camo clothing back.   His brother-in-law is still hunting out there but the rest of us are staying away.  His bro-in-law thinks we just have wild imaginations.  He hasn't seen it or smelled it..and there's lots of deer out there..so he's still hunting out there...he keeps trying to get us to go back with him but I doubt if we will...

I may go again when rifle season opens...don't know.  If it is a Big Foot...I don't want to hurt it in anyway..I would like to get photos of it.  But I think you are foolish if you go out there without a heavy rifle or handgun.  Those things seem to want the deer for themselves and don't take kindly to competition.  To be fair I have to say that there are a few cougars out there too...but they seem to range far out and stay gone a long time before they come through again.  Also..I looked at the photos of the broken trees at your web-site..and I think those "could" have been knocked over by the wind...I've seen many trees like that and the wind does that most of the time...sometimes though...it is not the wind because you hear them being broken on a still night...so who knows.

I know this country good...I've coon hunted all over every since I was a kid.  I am now 32.  I go to church and enjoy various hobbies...I am a carpenter by trade and enjoy helping people.  I consider myself to be a "normal" person.  I hope this report helps you in some way.  Oh yea...another thing I saw while hunting for a trophy white tail....I saw some "flying balls of light"(while sitting on my deer stand)...that was in 1986 but it was in the area where I found the goat legs later.  I just figured someone was trying to scare me..it was in a wet marshy spot...it scared me and I left...if it was someone playing tricks on me...they never told me...and it was a very remote area.  Some of the old folks told me "that was just swamp gas...don't worry about it."  So I returned to that area to hunt the next season.
I hope you folks have good luck.  That's about all I can think of to tell you for now.

Some very interesting follow up e-mails from the eye witness.

Hello friends. (you may consider me a friend if you like)  I don't want to
get your hopes up too much or anything but I am serious about the information
I send to you.  I would have liked to show you the area where I lived...back
during the years that I saw and heard so much activity...mostly during the
late 1980's and early 1990's.  1994 was the last time I (personally) (not
counting what my cousin saw Saturday Sept. 29, 2001) heard or saw anything
pertaining to "Big Foot."  And I have never actually seen the thing in full
detail.  So...I am not even 100% convinced myself but I am about 98%
convinced in its existence.  I do know "something" is out there...I just
never was sure "what."  Upon doing a little research myself....I've noticed
that the things I've seen and heard (here in East Texas) fall right in line
with the reports I read submitted by other credible people.  Somewhere...on
file..somewhere I think I am even signed up as an "Official Big Foot Field
Researcher."  I don't remember which web site that was on anymore...it has
been a few years since I signed up...and mostly I did it for fun at the
time...but I am also very serious too.

Regarding what I have personally actually seen...well...I've seen things
flash by me very very fast...it was so fast that I wrote it off as just being
eye strain...but then the tracks would be there...and one time I was certain
that I saw a face like a monkey staring at me from behind trees and
brush..and I saw hair in the little holes through the brush..but never saw
anything completely in the open...so could have been a bear or who knows
what.  I know one thing though...I always had the same experiences in the
SAME AREA.  I would go and hunt on other properties and not see or hear
anything.  I will also say that I have not seen many of the HUGE tracks that
are on your web site.  I saw the HUGE TRACKS about twice in my life and the
small ones many..many times.  And the small tracks always had a VERY EXTREME
CURVATURE IN THE FOOT.  Another thing...sometimes my dogs would totally go
crazy and bark and snarl at a particular group of bushes..and then I would
hear something BIG run off...and smell that awfull smell.  And I would always
feel very very uneasy when that would happen.  And when my goats began being
taken..it was mostly the smaller goats..(and some fat stags that were
big).and the fences would be totally crushed down from something going over
it and sometimes through it...and there would almost always be that thick
wooly hair on the barbed wire..and on thorns in the brush.  BUT....the hair
was WHITE in color...I don't mean snow white...more like a dirty white or
cream color.  And I've never heard of a "white" Big Foot...except in cold
climates....so I really don't know what I was dealing with for sure.

I have an Uncle (he's the one who suggested to me that I may have seen a Big
Foot) who experienced some kind of terrible experience..but it was in the
1960's...when a "Yeti" (apparently) came and GROWLED LOUDLY and shook his
pick-up truck...he and his wife and baby son was inside a camper on the back
of the truck(camping at night)...the baby was so scared that he didn't even
cry.  The next morning there were HUGE TRACKS EVERYWHERE!  And my Uncle's
Father-in-law has actaully seen the animal.  He has an apple orchard and some
grapes.  (He lives in Ohio.)  He saw the animal walk up to his gate..and
there is a very tall sign with the name of the farm over the gateway...and
grapes (the grapes were about 11 ' from the ground) were hanging up there and
they were ripe...he saw the animal walk up there and eat some grapes...look
at him....and then move on.  I've always figured Big Foot was somewhere
else...like up North...like Canada...but some of my kinfolk have told me that
the things that I've seen and heard (here in East Texas) are just like the
things that they've seen and heard (in Ohio)....so I do have to wonder if
maybe the Yeti lives in many different areas....even in Texas.

Check you later.

Hello friends.  I submitted a report last night (Saturday night) but I had
not looked around your website vey much before I did that.  Now (Sunday
night, 10/07/01) I've just read Mary Green's Tenn. report for the first time.
I was shocked at the SIMILARITIES of what she and her son experienced and
what I used to experience every Deer Season down here in East Texas!  Those
high pitched bird calls...I've heard that so many times...and it always
concerned me..and finally the creatures would meet up with one another and
make crashing sounds in the brush...it would scare the deer badly..and they
would run wild!  Then after a few minutes...DEAD SILENCE.  Yep...one time I
got really scared...I was hunting with a SINGLE SHOT .58 CAL ZOUVE RIFLE.  It
is a MUZZLE LOADER..a "black powder rifle."  Anyway..it was a gift to me from
a federal judge who I admire...and I have always prized it greatly and told
the judge that I would try to bag a deer with it some day...anyway...I was
hunting..and not seeing anything...I was cold and getting restless..and
loosing circulation in my butt  :)...and it was getting to be about 20
minutes of daylight left..so I got up and moved down to the very edge of some
woods that go down to a valley with a swamp..and then rise back up to a high
elevation...the entire area is remote and heavily wooded. (used to be owned
by International Paper Company) I had some candy in a sandwitch bag with
me..I ate some..and then put the rest in my pocket.  I then took the plastic
bag and placed it between my two thumbs (hands clasped together) and
blowed..to make dying rabbit sounds etc.  I was thinking maybe I would at
least see a coyote or something.  I just wanted to see some wildlife because
I was getting bored.  Anyway..after I did that..I heard those high pitched
sounds a very long way off...my Parents had heard them before...and said they
were either just some night birds that never have been identified yet or are
not well known..so I was not afraid about it.  Well...after a few minutes...I
heard 2 calls...then they would get closer to each other...they were still
maybe 600 yards away....as they got closer I saw birds flying out of the area
(robins, redbirds and wood thrush) and acting scared...I also saw a rabbit
running fast..and a doe white tailed deer ran out past me panting hard...her
tongue was hanging out of her mouth because she was so exausted....by now the
high pitched noises had stopped...but I could hear crashing about in the
brush..and HEAVY sloshing (not like deer) through wet spots in the valley
below the hill..then everything got quiet.  I had already cocked the muzzle
loader and had it resting on my left knee and aiming towards a deer trail
where the doe came through.  I maybe had 5 minutes left of legal hunting
time..but stayed a little longer just to see what I might see and hear.
After a silence of maybe 20 minutes...I heard that high pitched screaching
sound again...from two locations..right in front of me!  The animals were
within 15 to 25 yards in front of me now!...and they ran back and forth and
broke the tree branches and brush...just going back and forth..until one
started right at me coming fast!( and the other one circling around behind
me!)...I could see the bushes breaking and swinging violently!  I set the
rear sight (it has those old military style flip up sights in a row) all the
way down for close range..and put my finger on the trigger..and aimed at the
bushes (they have purple berries on them..deer like to eat them)...and then I
said a little prayer..I knew it weren't no bird!  My heart pounded so hard
that I got chest pains and was in fear of passing out...so....I had learned
some Karate stuff earlier (from a book) and began to make a premeditated
effort to breathe properly again..and my heart rate came back to a bearable
rate....then things got SILENT.  I let the hammer back down on the rifle..and
shouldered it.  I then drew my 1911 Model .45 acp pistol(back-up)..and made
the long walk back home...looking back behind my shoulder the entire time.  I
had a small new testament Bible in my pocket(I would normally read in it to
pass the time on slow days)..I carried it in my other hand too...just for
additional comfort!  :)  I never did actually see the creatures that night
though.  I was sure glad to get back home (about 1 mile away) and I brought
part of my dogs (who were in the dog pen) in the house with me and let the
big hound dogs run loose in the yard too...they barked all night long.  I
even closed the curtains and shutters..and still felt a little uneasy.

I hope this helps some...I will send you more e-mail when I have time.

Later.
