DATE:           11/??/95

TIME:            Around 6:30-7:00 P.M./ just before dusk

LOCATION:  Konnarock, Virginia,  Washington County

TERRAIN:    Corner of an open field/ Wooded area

OBSERVED:    Let's set this up first. I am now 21. At the time, I was about 15 or so. I was bow hunting whitetail deer behind my house. I had my stand in a tall tree in the lower right hand corner of a large open field. Behind me was a small apple orchard where my father was hunting. The field kind of sloped up in front of me so that the top of the hill was about eye level when I was in my stand. A fence ran just behind my tree and turned at my right to go across the hill. On the opposite side of the fence was a very large wooded area that stretched to the top of the mountain.

I had been watching a couple of does in the field for a little while that were too far off to get a shot at. Suddenly, the deer both snorted and ran off into a wooded area to the left of me. Seconds after, I heard something coming from the right of me, as though someone was walking out of the woods to the fence. I was sure it was the big buck my dad had been telling me about seeing in the field.

To my surprise emerged a slightly tall creature walking upright like a human. It was a reddish color with a gray face. It being the time of day that it was, I could not make out any facial features. To be quite honest, one of my first thoughts was "is that an Orangatang", because it absolutely looked like that or like someone dressed in a suit.

The exposure was kept minimal, lasting only seconds, which felt more like minutes! The beast stood there for what seemed like forever, finally turning kind of towards me. Keep in mind that I am fully camo-ed and in a tree that still had a lot of leaves left. It seemed to look right at me, then while turning, gave out the most gosh-awful blood-curdling scream and ran back down through the woods. I was scared out of my freaking mind!!

When my father came to get me shortly after dark, he recalls that I was still breathing hard and shaking when I came down out of the tree. When I told him about it, I don't think he believed me. I asked him about the scream, but he said he heard something but paid it no mind. He did say that he believed I saw something because he said it was obvious that I was scared.

ACTIVITIES OF WITNESS(ES):  Whitetail deer hunting in a tree stand with a compound bow. No alcohol/ drugs involved.

DESCRIPTION OF CREATURE:  Ranging in the 6-7" area, with reddish-brown, long hair, and a gray face. Could not make out facial features. Acted as though it was hunting the deer I had been watching. The scream was like nothing a human could ever come out with.

OTHER NOTES:  Over the past few years, the deer population had thined out some in the area. This animal did appear to be after or stalking those deer in the field, though it never attempted to enter the field, never even touching the fence.
I have not really thought about this any more since it happened, until today when I read an article in a Va Game and Fish magazine. It had this web site, which lead me to share my sighting. I am not a superstitious person, and up to this point believed bigfoot to be just that. After today, however, I more now than ever believe that what I saw that fall day was the eastern bigfoot. How else could one explain how my sighting and description which I told family and friends 6 years ago could match perfectly those told by people in Arkansas and Louisiana and even Alabama just recently? If the animal had been a few hundred yards away, doubt could be shed, but 30 yards is hardly enough room for doubt at all!

OTHER SIGHTINGS IN THIS AREA?:  Closest to this area is in Mountain City TN in Johnson county listed on this site. It is only 20-30 min. from my location.
