DATE:    1961

TIME:     Lunchtime

LOCATION:   Queens County, New York

TERRAIN:    suburban neighborhood, not heavily wooded

OBSERVED:    was walking home from school at about 4-5 years old (back then we were allowed to walk home alone) this was about 15 blocks of suburban neighborhood.  I was a few blocks from home and a very large white bird swooped down on me towards my head - with a wing span of over 8-10 feet. Looked like nothing i had ever seen, even at a young age. I knew it was too big to be a seagull (we did not live near the beach) Perhaps a large egret?  swan?  the neck did not look like a swan. the only person around me was the local mailman, and he saw it too. I am not sure if my parents believed me, but I know it happened. Yes, i am still scared of birds!
