Outlying ranch house, surrounded by forest and fields.
OBSERVED:
My childhood friends and I were tent camping directly behind one of my
friend's house. We were up telling jokes and all of the other stuff
kids do. All of a sudden, my friend's lab, who was in the tent with
us, began growling and acting defensive. A few seconds later, a large
hand from outside pushed into the tent. I could definitely see four
fingers and an opposable thumb, and we all thought it was an adult man.
We screamed and the hand pulled back. We waited for a few minutes,
then ran inside. Now, the only adult male at this premises was upstairs
in the shower and unable to get outside. The nearest neighbor's house
was a good mile away. We saw nothing in the field behind the tent,
neither did my friend's mother who was inside watching TV by a sliding
glass door in view of the tent. This may all have been a prank on
us, but I have thought about it for years and don't know who could have
pulled it off or why.

in a tent with a lantern on.
Description
of Creature: All we saw was the
shape of the hand as it pushed against the tent: large with four fingers
and an opposable thumb. Appeared very human in shape. Creature
was silent, making no noise as it approached or retreated. Was not
alarmed by growling dog but disappeared when we all three began to scream.

Notes: Notice that,
although we didn't hear the creature coming, the dog sensed it somehow.
