Report Posted To GCBRO Web Site On  July 1, 2008

DATE:    November 2007

TIME:     Pre-Dawn

LOCATION:   Vernon Parish, Louisiana

TERRAIN:    Pine ridges dropping into hardwood bottoms

OBSERVED:    It was about 1 1/2hrs before daylight when my son(14y/o), my step-son(21y/o) & myself(45y/o) arrived in the location we had previously scouted to deer hunt. We had placed our stands the day before, so we wouldn't make so much noise going in the woods. The stands were placed along a ridge that dropped into a thick, wooded bottom & they were placed about a 100yds apart. My step-son was in the 1st stand about 1/4 mile from the truck, then my son was in the middle & I was at the end of the ridge about a 1/2 mile into the woods. We had been there about 1hr when suddenly there was this unbelievable roar/yell coming out of the bottoms. I could actually "feel" the sound & it lasted a good 10-15 seconds. After this the coyotes went "nuts", they came running out the bottom yelping like the devil was after them. They crossed the ridge between my son & I, heading towards the pipeline. After this was over, I heard nothing else. A

Activities of Witness:   Sitting in deer stands, waiting on daylight.

Description of Creature:  Too dark to see anything

Other Notes:    After day break we stayed in our stands until about 0930 without seeing anything. As my son & I were walking to my step-son's stand, I asked him if he heard that noise before daylight? He said, "Of course I heard it, whatever that thing was, it was right in front of me!" He said after everything quieted down, he could hear something moving in the thicket, but it was too dark to see. I then jokingly ask if he was scared. He said, "Not really because I was 15ft up with a .270 loaded with ballistic tip hollow points."

Other (Informational or Encounter History in the General Area) Notes:    The following weekend my step-son went back to the same general area alone, because I couldn't go. He said just before daylight he heard the same roar/yell as before, but it was about 1/4 mile away. It yelled again about 10 minutes later & it sounds closer. He said it yelled a 3rd time & it was only about a 100 or so yards away. At that time he climbed down & went home.
