DATE:    April 25, 1977

TIME:     Mid-Day

LOCATION:   Jefferson County, Mississippi

TERRAIN:    Wooded

OBSERVED:    For several years some friends I hunted with on family property would hear "breathing" close to them but could never see anything. They also smelled a scent like rotten meat or something dead. Finally, it happened to me. I was sitting on a hillside during deer season and suddenly I was aware of a pungent, alien smell of rotten meat or of something that really stank. The hair on my neck stood up and I was suddenly frightened to the point I broke my blind and charged uphill with my rifle expecting to defend myself against an unknown danger. I saw nothing, just as my friends had seen nothing when they heard the breathing. The following year I was turkey hunting and I was suddenly aware that I heard breathing behind me. Again the hair on my neck stood up and I felt danger. Again I broke my blind and charged behind me with my shotgun expecting to defend myself against an unknown danger.
Later, not during a hunting season I was walking the family property and I was going up a ridge line very very slowly just observing, when suddenly a creature I had not seen broke running to my left from not 20 yards away from me. I got a fast but good look at it and it was a Big Foot creature. It ran almost as fast as a deer, and it was slender, medium brown hair, not more than six feet tall, long arms, and fairly small head. It was not the muscular description as the one out in California some years ago. It moved so fast, that it could have harmed me or killed me if it had wanted to do so.

The old home place is leased to some friends of the family now, and I had occasion to visit with several of them when in Mississippi over the holidays during deer season (January, 2008 ). One of them reported that he was walking through the woods and was suddenly aware of a "smell of death" that frightened him very much and his hair stood up on the back of his neck. He noticed a crushed down area in a cane brake like a "living room" and the smell came from there. He saw some dark hair 3 to 4 inches long on some of the cane. I asked him if he took some hair so we could do DNA testing, and he said no, that he didn't take the second or two to do so... he just got the heck out of there because he was so afraid and frightened.

Activities of Witness:   Walking through the woods very slowly to observe wild life.

Description of Creature:  Slender, brown hair that seemed short, about 2 to 3 inches, not more than six feet tall, long arms compared to human, small head compared to body, and could run almost as fast as a deer. I did not get a good look at the face, but what I would say is that it had sort of a "flat" face with relatively small nose.

Other Notes:    Some years ago I found five dead deer in a small area not far from where I saw the creature.

Other (Informational or Encounter History in the General Area) Notes:    My grandmother used to live on the old home place described here and she told me stories about how they used to hear something scream in the woods at night that sounded like a woman screaming. There was also "something" that walked through the woods and would tear or break off limbs from trees. This would have been in the 1930's and 1940's.

Also, looking at the reports contained within this web site, all  three surrounding counties to Jefferson have Big Foot sightings.

Additional Notes and or Follow up Comments I would like to add that I am a reasonably intelligent person, college educated, and worked for an insurance company 38 years, proving that I am a reliable person.  I say this because I want you to know that what I said above is true.
