DATE:    1978-1982

TIME:     Afternoon

LOCATION:   Cass County, Texas

TERRAIN:    Lake, Swampy

OBSERVED:    My father and I were fishing on Lake Monticello in East Texas, when he spotted an unusual animal in the water. I did not see it and was kidding with father about what he said he saw, when after a few minutes it raised it's head slightly out of the water again maybe 20 feet from the boat. It had the color of a beaver and about the size of a basketball. This happened again eight to ten times, it was going away from us and I was following with the trolling motor. The last encounter it stayed under for maybe ten minutes, then emerged from waist up about fifty yards in front of the boat. It was very large 500-700 lb., it stared at us for around a minute then went back under. We stayed in the area for some time and never saw it again. It looked like a large ape, it was not a man or scuba diver, we do not know what it was.

Activities of Witness:   We were bass fishing

Description of Creature:  It was very large, it's head was about the size of a basketball, it's shoulders were twice the size of a normal man. It's color was like a beaver, a rusty brown and black.

Other Notes:    N/A

Other (Informational or Encounter History in the General Area) Notes:    We told my brother-in-law, the story of what we had seen, about a year later he was at a sales meeting for Nabisco, in Houston, he said a man told the group of an experience he had at the same lake, similar to ours.

Additional Notes and or Follow up Comments N/A
